The Work of CanAssist

Mbita is a fishing town located along Lake Victoria.  CanAssist supports a large number of rural schools within a two hour range.  On our first day at this beautiful lakeside oasis we had the opportunity to take a ferry across the bay.  From there we drove to a school funded by CanAssist and named after John Geddes' father, S.P. Geddes.  The children and their teachers had prepared a warm welcome.  This was a particularly special day because I had the honour of accompanying members of John's family, as they made a sort of pilgrimage to the school named after their dad.  John, his granddaughter, niece, brother and sister-in-law were all there to witness this remarkable legacy!  Due to these special circumstances the greeting that awaited us was especially moving.  Family photos were made including one where John is holding little S.P., a local boy named after the benefactor of the school.

Our day begins!
